The area is mostly suburban with tightly packed Victorian streets. The oldest surviving building in Hackney is on Homerton High Street, it was built in 1535 and is owned and run by the National Trust.

Westbound trains head toward Richmond and Clapham Junction via Dalston Junction, and eastbound trains head to Stratford. Homerton is also served by a number of London Buses.
