Dagenham is home to Valence House, the last surviving member of the five manor houses of Dagenham, dating back to the 13th century.

Dagenham is connected to the London Underground services from three stations, Beacontree, Dagenham East and Dagenham Heathway.
All three of these stations are on the District Line. There is also a proposed, though yet confirmed, Docklands Light Railway extension which would run to Dagenham Dock.
